BELTS AND THE REASON WE WEAR THEM

We wear belts in KENPO in order to determine certain achievement levels. For instance, I am currently a GREEN belt in KENPO. Now that means that I have come past the ranks of YELLOW,ORANGE, PURPLEand BLUE. Wearing this belt represents the current knowledge that I have attained. This page is about the first requirements for the first rank in our style.

There are basically three types of movements in KENPO that make the style what it is. The first and most important things are called a "BASICS". Basics are the smallest and (usually) the most simplest movement in Kenpo. Like the atom, basics are the foundation for the rest of the structure. The next step is "TECHNIQUES". Techniques are a combination of "BASICS" that make up a certain response to a specific attack. Lastly, are the "FORMS." (also known as "KATA'S") Forms are a compilation of basics and techniques. Forms are a great way for the martial artist to practice and better him or herself in basics and techniques.

Here are the ranks through-out our style of martial arts. If you are a martial artist as well, you may find it amusing ( I do ) to compare the color structure to your own style. I found it amusing that my rank "GREEN" is only the third rank in Tae Kwon Do! Well anyway, here they are.
