Liquid Diets Although liquid diets have been recently popularized as a pathway toward body cleansing and renewed health, they are equally useful for weight reduction. The liquid diet is a low-calorie regimen in which sustenance is taken solely in liquid, rather than solid form. Since water is the basic component of all liquids, it has a bloating effect, so it is difficult to drink all that water without discomfort. With small servings of the chosen beverage spaced throughout the day, you can remain somewhat satisfied. And, as you can only drink your nourishment, the liquid diet prevents you from straying with some "forbidden" food that is easily sneaked onto the menu |

Many people practice this form of dieting on a once-a-week or once-a-month basis to rejuvenate the body systems while also producing a calorie reduction. The liquid diet can only be followed for a set time, ranging from one day to one month. Those who wish to remain on a liquid diet longer to flush out toxins are advised a diet of fruit juice for one week prior to any complete fast. During the fasting period, water is taken for hunger or thirst; a gallon a day is suggested. A little lemon juice, honey, or molasses may be added to the water for it's laxative effect. A return to fruit juice, one day of juice for each day of fasting, precedes the reentry into the world of solid food. This is also known as "scientific" or "rational" fasting. Is This Harmful
