Brown Sugar and Spice Cookies

1/3 cup margarine, softened
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1'4 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup whole wheat flour
1 TBLSP. granulated sugar
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon

In large mixing bowl beat margarine with electric mixer on medium to high
speed for 30 seconds. Add the 1/3 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder,
and the 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Beat until combined. Beat in egg
and vanilla. Beat in as much of the flours as you can. Using a wooden spoon,
stir in remaining flour. In a small bowl combine the 1 Tbs. granulated sugar and
the 1/8 tsp. cinnamon.Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place balls 2 inches apart
on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten each ball with the tines of a fork in crisscross
fashion. Sprinkle cookies with the sugar-cinnamon mixture.
Bake in oven 350 degrees for 7 to 9 minutes, or until firm. Cool on cookie sheet
for 1 minute. Transfer to wire rack; let cool.
Makes about 36 cookies.
