Hospital FBI
Mood:  mischievious
Topic: (scary) hospital stories
Ever since I performed a pseudo-military coupe / putsch on the making of the night duty schedule I’ve felt as if I’m in charge of the Malaysian anti-corruption agency. Unbelievable what some colleagues will do to reduce their number of night shifts, up to paying colleagues to do their night duties in their name. When V. asked me why I gave her 8 shifts in November I told her it was because of her low cumulative, having only done 6 last month. “But I did 7 shifts last month”, she exclaimed. I bluntly said “Nope, don’t forget you pushed one of them to J.”…. The look on her face, when she realised I had found out…. No corruption; everybody the same number of calls, I told her. Takes a bloody Dutch Fluffy dude to get things straightened out in this cuckoo-place…

Dogs in Sweaters
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Everyday life (weirdness)
I’m sitting here in Bodegas, enjoying my nice Illy? double espresso machiato, while having a good view out on the street. The not too loud background lounge-music mixes with the voices of people spending a relaxed afternoon out. Across the street there is a salon. Not very busy, since it’s a public holiday, however, the people inside are very entertained. A small dog wearing some kind of sweater is testing the strength of the jeans of one of the salon workers. The dog, having put its teeth in the leg of the jeans, is dragged over the floor by the salon employee, making all the other people inside laugh. Good times, good times…
I’m passing time here, having been dragged out by a not so extremely close friend, who needed to talk to me but also had to teach a music class @ the same time. Never mind, gives me some time to spend in this rather attractive environment. The only thing I wonder about is what she wanted to discuss. She fits perfectly in the category of remarkable people that somehow always cross my path, so it’s probably gonna be a remarkable story…

Wet-wet-wet-2
Mood:  vegas lucky
Topic: Everyday life (weirdness)
Sitting behind my laptop and struggling to get my poster done, the sudden gush of wind was a welcome cooling-down. To make it even better I opened the windows in the little hallway to maximise the ventilation. Oopss.... wrong move, as minutes later water started pouring down from the sky, in a few seconds changing the whole entrance in a mini-swimming pool. Next thing I know I'm mopping the floor, trying to prevent the water from entering the apartment and right away flowing to the balcony on the very other side of the room.
I managed to survive, though getting wet feet. Hopefully in a little while I won't have to worry anymore about ventilation. That is, if I get another apartment in this place. Problem 1 is finding it and then comes nr 2; a proper roommate. But it'll be good to have a place of my own though and I kind of am looking forward to it. Talking about housing; new tenants are presenting themselves already for my house in the Netherlands. They are even gonna renovate the kitchen, which unfortunately I have to pay for. But at least the place isn't empty and I will have some rental income to pay for the mortgage. That'll keep the bank happy huh-huh....
Anyway, after all the watery business, on top of that managed to finish up both my poster for the symposium, and the article for British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Such a relief, @ least one deadline less.... I'll put the poster on the webb as soon as the FIGO 2006 is over, so everybody can enjoy hihihihi....

Spicy Mistress
Mood:  suave
Topic: Night life & other action
The only thing I'm unfaithful to is my blog. NOT that my life is that exciting, but still. I haven't told everybody yet that the movie "Mistress of spices" is another jewel that kept me and my fellow-movie-holic very entertained. True, it was a movie about cooking and food, something that to me is right-away appealing. But it was the fairytale-like atmosphere that got me all cought up. And yes; I am a sucker for this specific kind of romantic movies. On top of that it had so much in common with this other kitchen-cooking-love-movie that I saw many, many years ago in the smallest theatre of Maastricht; "Como agua para chocolate (Like water for chocolate)" based on the book by Laura Esquival. Yeah, "Het Kneipke", the classic, small theatre in 50's style, where you could take your nice special Belgium beer with you inside the theatre and have nobody grumbling about it. Aahhh Good memories for sure, when I was still a medical student with the only thing to worry about how to pass the next exam.

About cofee & mayonaise
Mood:  suave
Topic: House & Garden Philosophy
When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day aren't enough, remember the mayonnaise jar... and the coffee...

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and
empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous sound.
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
"Now what?" said the professor, as the laughter subsided. "Now I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - your God, family, children, health, friends, and favorite passions - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter, like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else; the small stuff.
If you put the sand into the jar, he continued, there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18 holes. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there is always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.

Positive thinking is like this.... A little bird flies up in the sky; you look up and it shits in your eye...

But you don't mind and you don't cry... You just thank God that cows don't fly.....

Zoloft & Prozac
Mood:  blue
Topic: House & Garden Philosophy
So strange it is sometimes in life. When we are single, in the end we are always hoping to meet that special person. The one you want to come home for. The one who understands you because she is on the same wave length. I was discussing this with one of the chaps in the surgery department. The funny thing is, I already met several persons who are so on my wavelength. But somehow mostly the chemistry is not there. Or there are reasons not to pursuit, or… whatever… Could it be that, when I finally get to meet a “normal”, reasonable person for a change, it feels so alien that I cannot make the switch or connection ? Also, what seems a bit frightening, is that the people who seem reliable, also often are not so challenging, whereas on the other hand the seemingly more dynamic people at the same time are less reliable…

In the meantime the past is catching up and turns out that nothing has changed basically. The same old nonsense or maybe even worse. And many, many, so many conflicts of interest. But apparently I have to change my mindset. A long late-night talk with S. made it clear that apparently I’m living in an unrealistic, naive dreamland. News-flash !!! Women are not romantic and Darwin’s theory is the applied form of female sense of rationale; all this time it’s been about survival of the fittest. Basically one of the major checkpoints is whether as a male you’ll be able to provide a financially stable situation for a family. Whereas I all that time was thinking that love between 2 people should be irrespective and independent of financial situation. Well, I’m not to blame; her husband has the same foolish thoughts as me apparently. Anyway, I was told that this would be the only form of rationale that I was to expect from women. For the rest they will try to play our mind in their most skilful ways… Waaahhh depressing, isn’t it ? Hold on here, I need to get my Zoloft? first, to increase the effect of the Prozac?… welcome to reality gentlemen, you can take of your pink sunglasses now….

traffic jam
Mood:  silly
Topic: House & Garden Philosophy
Took the little red tomatoe of my friend M. today for a spin... Why a little red tomatoe ? It's one of those neat little cars that can park anywhere but still do their fair bit of growling in the traffic (Oh, yeah, and it's red...). Ayo, this is the last time I ever took a car to Midvalley, or @ least on a sunday. A cab would have defenitely cost me less time... But of course, what to expect, it's a sunday and on top of that "Mega-sale festival" as well. That means it is time to stock up on underwear and socks ?? No la, just to get the easy-ironing shirt that now suddenly became affordable (I hate ironing, though I'm pretty skilled). Wanted to get another neat one with long sleeves, but.... yes, of course, my arms are too long. I'd better give up hope finding one here in Malaysia.
Anyway, finding a parking was hell, took me some 30-40 minutes ?! And while so I started thinking, how come that whenever there is a road accident, after all the involved people who pulled their cars on the side of the road, they always feel the need to flock around the injured car. Indeed like a flock of sheep they will start staring at this car;

She: “Mhhhh.. I think it’s a bump….”
He: “Yeah… could be….”
She: “It’s probably a new bump”
He: “ yeah…. And look, there is a scratch too….”
She: “Mmhhh….”
He: “Yeah…. It’s a bump….”
She: “Confirmative, a bump….”

The magic of car accidents….. Till the extent that they can even sometimes cause traffic jams from people passing by and feeling the strange urge to join in on the staring.
I got home only 3.5 hours later...

Shoe fairies
Mood:  hug me
Topic: House & Garden Philosophy
Wow ! It’s been a while since I’ve been here, so my sincere apologies to all my (2? and of course you, Esther) faithful readers… Maybe I should re-install a new web-poll, to get some more positive feedback and thus motivation, what say you ?
Well, you know, everybody needs to take a time-out once in a while, just to get things back into perspective. In the meantime, nothing much happened here, except me working myself silly, so what else is new ? But of course, as we all know, life goes on and so do I. So does that mean we’ll get to see all the pictures finally ?? No, sorry to disappoint you, I still haven’t found a new proper website to put them on and the overall very nice Flickr? Tm-Tm only allows me 3 albums unless I sponsor their wallet of course.
So since I had nothing to write, I thought, why not mention that I really liked the movie I saw last weekend with M. I actually wanted to see this Hong Kong movie called “I’ll call you”, but it reminded me too much of my own miserable relationship attempts. I’m not gonna bother anyone with all that, you can find out later when I write my memoires (yes Reena, that’s pronounced as “memwars”, not as “memmoyrus”). So we went to this romantic, light-hearted comedy; “The Shoe fairy” about the girl who is obsessed with footwear. What is it that inevitably attracts some women to shoes, or handbags for that matter ? Mhh.. even after the movie I didn’t know, so remains to be seated and wait for my very own shoe fairy to come along. I just hope that it will not be an analogue of the way the dentist guy met the girl in his practise hahahaha……..
