WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA
The purpose of this spell is to make things fly. The spell originated when the golden snitch bird was replaced with the tiny winged ball used now for the snitch in quidditch. In early experimentation with the ball, quidditch wizards had difficulty getting the snitch to fly. Before today's magic was used on the golden snitch, the quidditch referee would perform the Wingardium Leviosa incantation on the winged ball before each match to make it fly.
"wing" -- Scandinavian
"gardium" -- Latin; 'ium' is a neutral ending
"leviosa" --Latin; from verb 'levare', meaning 'light' or 'lighter'
