Built in 1876, the San Sebastian church become the nucleus of a new settlement which eventually became the present day City of Bacolod. The church was built upon the initiative of Fr. Mauricio Ferrero, a Recollect friar, and it become a cathedral in 1933. It is made of coral stones and lime quarried from nearby Guimaras Island. The San Sebastian Cathedral is today one of the century-old churches found in Negros Occidental. It is located just across the street from Bacolod Public Plaza.
