YWAM Balut is located in the southern area of greater Manila and is ministering to the poorest, mainly "garbage pickers" and their families in the area formerly known as "Smokey Mountain", a huge garbage dump area for the city of Manila.
The infamous large "Smokey Mountain" dump from the Marcos era was done away with and many of the people who used to live in that dump now live in government housing. While the situation for some of the people has improved, the garbage dumps still exist (just moved to different locations) and thousands still get their living off of them.
Youth With A Mission continues to work amongst these people to help them in practical ways and give them the life-changing gospel. Through efforts such evangelism, church planting, schooling, education scholarships and tuberculosis medical work these people are given a new hope and a way out of the cycle of poverty.
YWAM Balut now has four ministry locations. Our future vision is to see the ministry enlarge to where it becomes nation wide. We believe that the Lord is doing new things with us and that He is making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.
The four ministry locations are:
1) Temporary Housing -(major ministry location) where many of the former residents of smokey mountain now live. Preschooling, TB ministry, evangelism, counseling and student sponsorships are provided
2) Dasmarinas Cavite - church planting, student sponsorship and TB ministry
3) Bagong Silong - student sponsorship ministry
4) Appari (in northern Philippines) - student sponsorship ministry
Also the Youth With A Mission Philippines National Office is located here. This office coordinates the efforts of YWAM to evangelize, disciple and mobilize the nation of the Philippines for Christ.
