Intramuros (The old City)

Intramuros was founded in 1571 as the center part of the Spanish Capital of the Philippines. It was the exclusive preserve of the ruling classes. this walled city survived until the end of World War II, when it was destroyed by US and Japanese bombing. In spite of the devastation, there are still some impressive buildings as well as the wall, and the area is quiet and peaceful compared to nearby Emrita and Malate. There is also a nearby golf course just outside the walls.
