Malate
If adequate housing is not available in the Balut area, another alternative is to stay in Malate, an area about a half hour away. Malate has many inexpensive hotels, is close to bus and city rail transport and the ocean. However there are quite a few nightclubs in this area also, making the area somewhat noisy on weekend evenings.
The Malate Pension, located behind Starbucks, is a good budget deal and a very secure place.
