How do you do that? All positions in ballet have turned out legs, opening from the thigh using the rotator muscles. The arch of the foot should be lifted, all toes on the ground, legs straight, and pelvis square. Why are the legs turned out? Turned-out legs makes for better extension, and allows the legs to be lifted higher. Also, it is more aesthetically pleasing, and provides for a stable base for balancing, and freer range of movement. |
