From hibernation to dotcom, Pinoy hip hop pioneers Masta Plann return with a bang

by Kage Gozun

The last time I saw Masta Plann was six years ago. Johnny (Type) and Butch (Tracer) were riding on a wave of hip-hop hype. "Bring That Bootie" from their second album The Way of The Planet was everywhere and, not since Francis Magalona, had there been an act as down with the rap groove as they were.

When all the hoopla died down, they booked it and flew back to the States where they remained in musical hibernation. But now they're back. Johnny, now known as Tha Nontypical One and Butch, renamed Supa Flip, are back in the muthaland with a fresh yet familiar sound and a third album. The new album's name Mastaplann.com stems not from the Y2K naming frenzy but from the fact that they were all ready to sell their music through the internet. What's up with that?
