THE SUN VALLEY CREW

Although the Sun Valley Crew (SVC) have just been launched by Universal Records through their eponymous debut album, the very appealing group have already created quite an impact on the Philippine music scene.

So their goal to expand the hip-hop audience in the Asian region is also within their reach.

The first single from "SVC" album, Juss Chillin (My Hommies Kick It With Me), has already been receiving extensive airplay and it has already been charted on the Top 10 of FM stations.

The carrier tune has an instant hook which will surely catapult it to the top of the charts.

All tracks on the new "SVC" album (now available through Universal Records on high grade cassette & CD) are written by SVC – Bob Ya Headz, Trick On You, What’s Wrong (Skit), Izzit On, Rap Steady, Where You From (Skit), Where You At, M.C. S Like You, Summertime Bliss, Southside Recognize, and Who This (Skit).

Before they formed the Sun Valley Crew barely a year ago, RJ Señeres (aka ILL-J) and Ryan Ventura (aka SLIMM) were already hip-hopping as the Freak Function while Joseph Papa (aka PUFF-AJ) and Ryan Armamento (aka JUSS-RYE) comprised the first SVC.

Since they shared the same goals and they play the same kind of music, they instantly clicked together and they became a more formidable hip-hop band called the Sun Valley Crew.

It’s not surprising that SLIMM, ILL-J, PUFF-AJ and JUSS-RYE are well-focused young musicians, who simply enjoy playing their kind of sound. All of them hailed from buena familias, so it’s but natural that all of them are well-mannered, young gentlemen.

They became hip-hop artists simple because it’s the kind of music that they grew up with and relates well with their personal experiences and sentiments. SLIMM’s fave’s Spark In The Dark (Southside) since it says a lot of things about him. ILL-J’s pick’s Da Place Where We Dwellz simply because it’s the hardcore type of hip-hop. PUFF-AJ’s and JUSS-RYE’s choice: A Game We Play – they both reveal the song’s sort of touching and about their individual lives.

"You’ve got to be yourself or be natural, honest sincere," ILL-J intones. "In hip-hop everybody can appreciate what you’re doing if there’s no pretention to put up a false façade to impress." SLIMM adds: "SVC have a simple goal. To play hip-hop and be appreciated in our country, where this kind of music isn’t as widely accepted as in the USA."

"Hip-hop, to us, is not simply a kind of music," JUSS-RYE butts in. "In a wider scope, it’s entirely a way of life. A distinct lifestyle which comes naturally." There’re but a few hip-hop groups in our country, so the SVC have always been delighted everytime they hear of them. "The more, the merrier," PUFF-AJ beams. "They can’t really be of help to expand the hip-hop crowd."

As the Sun Valley Crew start with their initial album’s promo blitz, the group look forward to reaching out to more people. They’re aware they’ve to work harder but they’re quite sure they’ll gonna enjoy.
