Dr. Dre was born Andre Young on February 18, 1965 in South Central Los Angles.
He began his career as a DJ in a local night club. The back room of the club contained
a room where Dre composed beats that could later be found on the N.W.A. album. N.W.A
broke ground and along with Ice-T were able to change the way society looked
upon rap music forever. The group brought the streets to the game. Before long
they went from selling tapes out of the back of a car to selling millions of
records nation wide. However, success can often lead to dissention and it wasn't
long before the group went their separate ways.
With the break up of N.W.A Dre took it upon himself to form a new label with his partner Suge Knight. With that Death Row Records was born. On this label he released his first album, "The Chronic". The album went multi platinum and also helped to introduce the world to Snoop Doggy Dogg. Dre went on to produce Snoops' Debut album which broke records for sales.
In 1996 Death Row signed 2 Pac and became one of the most powerful record labels in the world. However, once again dissention crept into the life of Andre Young and it was not long before the Death Row empire fell apart. In the span of a few years Dre and Snoop left death row. 2 pac was murdered and Suge Knight was indicted.
When Dre left Death Row he once again formed his own record label this time under the name Aftermath. The label's first release was a various artists compilation album. It went platinum and Dre began working on his second album. However, in the middle of the he met Eminem and decided to put his own album on hold in order to produce the multi platinum album "The Slim Shady LP".
The following November Dre released his own album The Chronic 2001. This album
once again went platinum re-assuring Dre's place as one of the top producers in
the world.
