Cousy's CD Reviews: John Mayer- Room For Squares

Weeks of May.30- July.28, 2002

ALBUM: Room For Squares
ARTIST: John Mayer
LABEL: Sony- 2002
RATING: 10 out of 10 (Steve's rating)

Coming off of an independent label release, Atlanta's John Mayer comes through with his first major-label release entitled "Room For Squares". Mayer has been compared to the likes of Dave Matthews and David Gray, but I assure you, his sound has it's own unique touch. The album is 14 tracks of mellow, soothing, acoustic-style music.

The song starts off with the album's first single entitled, "No Such Thing". This has become a somewhat-anthem for the American college populus, but has a great feel and speaks of reminiscence. Another ear-catching song is "My Stupid Mouth" where Mayer speaks of how his words got himself into a heap of trouble. As well as upbeat tunes, this album provides great love songs like "Your Body Is A Wonderland" and "Love Song For No One".

This is a great addition to any CD collection. Heck, if you want to fit it in between your Wilson Philips and Rush CD's, by all means do so. Be on the look out for John Mayer - he's making his way to Ottawa's "Barrymore's" on June 29 (for those 19+).
