Cousy's CD Reviews- Barenaked Ladies- Everything to Everyone

Weeks of Mar.9-May 14, 2004

ALBUM: Everything To Everyone
ARTIST: Barenaked Ladies
LABEL: Reprise- 2003
RATING: 8.25 out of 10

The Barenaked Ladies have grown up over the years and, as they’ve grown older, two things have happened. Their melodies are still ice cold catchy everyday and their lyrics of satire on society and everyday personal things touch the mind and heart everytime.

The latest album release by the Barenaked Ladies does not need to be tested for quality, or fun, or musical proficiency and melody. Each album these 5 lads from the great white north produce is consistently good. Everything To Everyone succeeds in continuing the streak of albums which balance the fun/catchy songs with the serious/theme songs. They’re all great. The first radio single, Another Postcard, is an extremely catchy silly track but fails to give BNL the credit that’s due them for the album. Keep your ears open for tracks like Maybe Katie, Testing 1,2,3 and War On Drugs. Those are the songs that will really catch you, hook you and send you to the store to buy the album. Or, perhaps, to the closest computer for download!

HOME RUNS:
Maybe Katie- neat concept for a song, good chorus, better verses
For You- touching, lovely song by the lads- very eloquent and pretty, possible tear-jerker
Testing 1,2,3- most catchy tune on the album in my opinion, a lot of fun and solid lyrics
War On Drugs- most moving tune on the album, a serious topic with amazing lyrics & melody
HITS: Celebrity, Another Postcard, Shopping, Upside Down
FOULS:Next Time, Aluminum, Unfinished, Take It Outside
OUTS: Second Best, Have You Seen My Love?

The bottom line is: Every is the word of the album and BNL holds their white flag up for peace, love and for EVERYONE to hear them!
