I have listed my top 5 artists...

5 BIGGIE The lyrical King of New York, born Christopher Wallaceburst onto the scene in 1994 with an amazing debut album.  This led to a fanbase of millions, males and females alike appreciated his lyrical skills and charisma.  Unfortunately, a fall out with Tupac Shakur led to both of their deaths within a year.
4 PHAROAHE
MONCH
While a member of the New York City duo Organized Konfusion, Pharoahe Monch developed a reputation as one of underground hip-hop's pre-eminent lyricists, crafting intricate and intelligent raps with partner Prince Poetry. After recording three albums together from 1991-1997, the two split up.  Monch pursued a solo career, further impressing fans with his amazing quickfire lyrical ability
3 DMX Rap's original darkman DMX was the first artist to have two #1 albums in the space of one year.  The classic Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood attracted fans in their millions, compelled by his horror-film-on-wax album and mysterious character.  Currently 'beefing' with Ja Rule, he has bared his soul to the world by admitting to former drug problems.  His biography E.A.R.L (Earl Simmons) clears up a thing or two for confused fans.
2 NAS Dubbed 'The New Rakim', Nasir Jones took the rap world by storm with his 1994 debut 'Illmatic' which is a much loved album across all genres.  However, he has failed to live up to the lyrical perfection on this album.  Then again, the child who penned the amazing 'One Love' was setting him self up for a fall in trying to match his brilliance.  Nas is at his best when not beefing, but simply rapping about 'real' topics.
1 2PAC My favourite Hip Hop artist takes the shape of the late great Tupac Shakur.  He burst onto the rap scene in 1991 with his political piece '2Pacalypse Now' and continued to shock and compel America's public for the next 5 years, knocking out 6 critically acclaimed albums and 5 box-office hit movies.  Click here for an entire megasite devoted to 2Pac's legacy.

I also enjoy the following artists...

Snoop Dogg
Chino XL
