This is where you get the 411!!
10/24/05 - HOLY CRAP. Last night, Z*E totally rocked the M-Shop! Our show was sweet ass. There were a couple of little things that could have been better, but all in all it was awesome. We tried using our friends light machines, to add a little flavor to the mix, and I think it worked out all right. Mark Mallman was fuckin' crazy too! That guy has awesome stage presence.
And also, here is a little update that I forgot to give ya'll, until now: the Z has a show in Iowa City this Thursday night!! That is the 27th and it will be at the Yacht Club, which we have rocked before. So, two shows in a week, that's good right? Anyway, I'm sure this show will go as good, if not better, than the M-Shop show. Come peep us if you can. If you can't, stay tuned for the Underground...
Well, for those of you who were not at the FIJI Island party, which was most of you, I must say...IT FUCKIN' ROCKED HARD!! It was a blast!! At first, we arrived kinda of late and didn't know if we were going to be able to hook up all our shit, but we got past the technical difficulties and melted off faces with hot ass rhymes. The best part (besides the "Pirates vs. Ninjas mega-finale) was right before we went on: the crowd there starting chanting "Z-E-FFEC-TIVE, Z-E-FFEC-TIVE!!" It was fuckin AWESOME. I hope we get to come back next year and rock it even harder.
Speaking of hard-ass rocking, this month, on October 23rd, do NOT forget that Z*E has a show right here in Ames, IA at the M-Shop!! It should not be missed. The devestation will be gigantic.
That's all for now, Z-Fam. Keep your chin up. Peace...
What up ya'll! This is E. Rey letting you know the latest Z*E news. We have two shows for the month of October! Actually, more like one and a half. See, on Oct. 1st we are going to be playing at a big party called FIJI Island. It is a special invite only thing and we are doing it as a favor to some friends, so most of ya'll won't be able to attend. But don't worry!! We have a show lined up just for you!
Right here in Ames, IA at the M Shop, we are going to be rockin' mics on Oct. 23rd!! We are gonna be opening for Mark Mallman, who is a pretty well known dude, so it should be a great growing experience. I believe tickets will be around $10 and the show will start at about 7:30, so come if you can and check out the Z!! It's gonna be a blast!
That's really all the major news right now, but of course I'll update ya'll when something goes down. For now, keep your ears to the Underground...
Joe is in his last semster of school. Once he finishes it will be far easier to get together for shows and recordings. After this semester we can really start crankin' out the hits.
I myslef have...graduated!!! That's right, no more school for me!! Yay!! I graduated over the summer and it is a weird feeling. We go to school for so much of our lives that being out of it is a transcendental trip. I need to start looking for a "real" job, other than being a rock star of course, but I am totally down with the Z and now that I'm free of school I can focus more energy on it.
Mike is...done with classes for now. He is focusing all his attention on the Z. He is laboring on Underground and makin' schemes for it so that it will be as fat as possible. We're looking into getting it pro-fessionally mastered! That would be phat-sauce! We're looking at a late October/early November for a release date. It will blow heads up...
Speaking of late October, we are looking to do a show or two this fall and the first one will probably be taking place around that time! It's gonna be here in Ames, IA so come and see the devestation once we get the date finalized. Being as it's that time of year, we'll probably give you guys a "Trick or Treat" of some kind at the show. Ha ha ha ha...
All in all, it's shaping up to be a very formative time in Z*E's lifespan. Now that we have major concerns like school behind us we can hopefully start picking up speed. I know it's a slow start but the beginning of a great journey usually is. Those of you who have stuck with us from the beginning, I promise it will be worth it if you just hold on. Peace out, fam.
5/26/05 - HOLY SHIT, MOTHERFUCKIN' YODA AND SHIT!!!! I'M BAAAAACCCCKK!! Wow, it has been a LONG ASS TIME. Allow me to update everyone on what is going on. This one will probably be big.
First, NO we have not fallen off of the map. Z Effective is still here and still kickin' out rhymes and shit. But there have been a few distractions. Namely, Joe left for Korea in February to study abroad. So as you can guess, this makes it very difficult to collab or do shows. Speaking of shows, we did a couple last year around Halloween and Thanksgiving. They went fairly well, but they were mostly just to keep us accquainted with rockin it live. When Phunk gets back we are definately gonna try and get more shows in. He should be returning near the end of June, so worry not.
Also, worry not that you will have to wait a long ass time to hear more tunes in ya ears! Before Phunk left, we finished recording vocals for our second album!! UHHHH! It's called "Underground" and is a good evolution from our first album. There are less tracks but more variety. There are reggae and jazz and rock and all kinds of things mixed in with rap. Sound-wise it is a very cool and unique album. Mike has been secretly working and molding the album into its finest shape, but as for now, we don't yet have a release date for it. But soon, soon...
And speaking of albums, our first album was received fairly well. And by recieved I mean our family and friends really liked it. LOL. But seriously, everybody we showed it to enjoyed it in some way and said it was a good start. We haven't really gone beyond just showing it locally and doing local shows. But once we are all out of college, which is rapidly approaching, we will be able to donate more time to Z*E. I believe Mike has about a year left, Joe should be graduating after this fall semester, and I will be graduating over this summer, since I'm here taking summer classes again. Then we can start throwing all our energy at this here rap game.
So that's basically it. School and seperation are still keeping us from fully investing are energies into Z*E, but even so we are still able to complete albums and make music. And we are going to keep doing this no matter what. We all love Z*E and of course we are not famous right now, but this is what's called "paying your dues" and we are paying them in full. Even if we just end up making music for our friends, Z*E will be around for a long, long, time. I know it has been awhile since the last update, but, like I said, we've been busy with school and making albums and shit. But I will definately keep ya'll up to date, don't you worry about that. Oh yeah, as a final piece of news, my contact info may be out of date. So if you want to get ahold of me or want a "This Just In..." album, hit me up at ElBoboRey@gmail.com. Peace OOOUUUUTT!!
6/28/04 - Ladies and gentlemen. Every once and awhile, an event happens that is so big, so monumentous, that it even eclipses itself. You cannot see it for what it truly is; you are unable to grasp it in its entirety. Only after it has come and gone, after you look back upon it with hindsight, can you see its influence, its true form. Ladies and gentlemen, tomorrow, on Tuesday, June 29th, 2004, an event of that magnitude will happen.
That's right! If you haven't already figured it out, tomorrow, officialy, FINALLY, the debut album from Z Effective, "This Just In.." will be available to the masses!!! We promised it this summer and we have delivered. This album is long awaited and is sure not to disappoint. Three years in the making, "This Just In..." is a culmination of the inspirations and aspirations of a fledging rap group. There. It's out. It's done. Get it; listen to it; enjoy it. And most importantly, spread it like mono on New Year's Eve. Any rap group worth it's salt starts out with a small sample following. So if you have the album, show your friends. Give it to your local radio. Spread the word so that everyone can enjoy it. The fans are as much apart of Z*E as the members are. It's the Z Family baby...
Ok, well, there you have it. The album's out. So what's next? Fret not. This is not a one time thing. I told you before that we haven't just been working on this album alone for three years; the studio recordings have produced other things. Expect a treat (or a trick) around Halloween this year. And you can be sure that a second album is in the works, but mum's the word on that right now. For now we are going to focus on this album and promote like hell. But I promise that our other projects will not take three years like this one!!
Wow, this is the biggest update in awhile, but I suppose that's to be expected. But here's some more: A new, better message board will EVENTUALLY be implemented in the near future sometime, so for now please make use of the one we have. Some time tomorrow or Wednesday, a "This Just In..." section will be up, with lyrics for all the songs on the album. There is a new little bio of Mike V. that he sent in, so peep it. And also, up right now is a brand new section called "Word from V". It's just going to be a little online diary for Mike that he can post his thoughts in every now and then and let you guys know how things are on his end.
Well, that is it. That's all to update. New sections, new ones coming, new projects on the horizon; but more importantly, a BRAND NEW album has dropped!! Get ready everyone, this is the beginning of something special, you will see. The Time is now...peace.
6/06/04 - YO YO YO YO!! What it is, motherfuckers?!?! Yes, it has been another long stretch since the last update. But what that means is, we have been DOING something during that time! Ok, here it is, straight from the hip like an erect penis: The recording of the songs is done. All that's left is tweaking and mixdown, and the V-Man is done with about 14 out of the 19 songs in that area. So a good 80% of the album is in fact DONE. Hopefully this week he will finish the rest of the songs, and then it's on to mass production and distributing. Don't worry, this album WILL drop this summer, we have vowed it. We are already starting to promote it. V has been pushing it in Iowa City, and since I'm staying in Ames for summer classes, I've been hangin' up some flyers. PhunkMasta has an internship in Newton, so he's kinda busy; but maybe he'll be able to show the album some love there too. And of course in C.B. (AKA Ground Zero, AKA the Gensis Spot) we'll have our crack street team (AKA Jeff Sievers) pushing the album for us, so don't miss it!! In fact, you can preorder it now! If you missed it on the main page, their is a link on how to preorder "This Just In...", so check it out! Also in the near future, expect a "This Just In..." section added to the site with lyrics sheets and whatnot, and also I am looking into a new, better message board (one where you have to sign in with your own unique name, that way no one can steal it from you!). So stay on your toes cause the bomb is nearing...PEACE.
2/1/04 - UUUUHHHHHH!! What up fools! I know it's a little late but Happy New Year! Z*E got they foot in da door for the 04! Hope you all had a a nice and safe New Year's and for all you school chilluns, keep hittin' them books, yer almost done! I need to bring y'all up to speed on some things. Firstly, do not worry about the album. It IS finished and in post-post-production. All we have to do is tweak, design, and mass produce. That's gonna take some time though, so bear with us! At the LATEST, this summer should be the time to crawl into the bomb shelter as we unleash the freshness. You've waited this long, a couple more months won't hurt, right? Secondly, if you're really dying for some Z, head to the Soundclick.com page and click that sound, bee-atch! Cause some brand new tunes have just surfaced over there! Peep them like your name was Tom. Thirdly, all this time in the studio making songs and beats and whatnot has produced some interesting...side effects. I'm not at liberty to say right now but just know that down the road things will get more fresh than they are now. And as a side note, I archived the 2002 News (if I hadn't mentioned that earlier) and the 2003 News will soon be archived as well. That's about all the freshness I have for you right now, but stay tuned like a Hendrix guitar. WORD.
