Pictures of my 1988 Phase I. Most of the car has been rebuilt, the bodywork, interior, electrics, gearbox*, brakes, suspension etc. and I'm working on a replacement engine and turbo for it at the moment. Click on the image to enlarge.
The turbo is set up to deliver a sensible 18psi boost and has a Bailey piston dump valve in place of the bypass valve, when I got the car it was boosting at 25psi with a huge lag and explosive kick-in, fun but not very practical for overtaking in traffic! Apart from that the engine is insurance friendly for the moment.
The brilliant Black bodywork and diamond only badging are thanks to plenty of elbow grease and the talents of my good pal Jerry at S.E.Isons Coachbuilders in Hemel Hempstead. The tints and clear side repeaters set it off nicely!
Other little mods include a Phase II dash (see how to... section), red-lacquered calipers and a set of 17" Wolfrace Streetracer alloys with 215/40 ZR17 Continental ContiSportContact tyres.
The tyres are great but a little nervous in the ice(!), I use the original alloys in winter!
TIP - if you ever fancy a trip to the snow - Snowchains don't like the original wheel/tyre combo as they rub on the steering arm balljoint, drop the tyre profile from 55% to 50% and the extra couple of mm clearance lets you get away with it!
*WARNING!! - I used a company called Brian Burton Engines in Colchester to recondition my gearbox. After plenty of hassles, damage and money I still haven't got it sorted properly - so my advice is go elsewhere!!
