Aurelio Salazar, Jr. is originally from Ontario, Oregon and is the son of farmworkers, his father Aurelio Salazar, Jr. passed away when when he was 6 years old and after moving to Salinas, California his mother Raquel Salazar passed away when he was 13.  Aurelio has two older sisters, Maria Salazar who is finishing her last year in law school in New York, New York and Rita Salazar-Sotelo who processes visa applications for the U.S. Government in San Antonio, Texas.

Aurelio Salazar, Jr. is a graduate from North Salinas High School and Hartnell Community College where he served as Student Body President and elected as the ASHC Representative to the Hartnell College Board of Trustees.  After graduating from Hartnell College, he attended San Diego State University where he received his Bachelors of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Mexican American Studies.

After graduating from San Diego State University, Aurelio returned to Salinas and has worked for Monterey County Supervisor Fernando Armenta, Monterey County Equal Opportunity Office, La Union Del Pueblo Entero and Sun Street Centers.  Aurelio is currently a member of the Monterey County Planning Commission and has been an active member of the League of United Latin American Citizens and the Monterey County Democratic Central Committee.
