Handspun Cotton Lace Bonnet

This bonnet is my first attempt to knit my own handspun cotton. Last summer, I spent hours spinning cotton on a tahkli (tiny brass supported spindle from India), while supervising my son in the park. After letting the skeins sit in a box for months, I finally designed a bonnet. The crown is a doily from Le Tricot d'Art, vol. 1, and the brim is the Maidenhair Edging from Marianne Kinzel's Second Book of Modern Lace Knitting. I knitted the bonnet on size 0000 (1.25 mm) needles and the entire project took 116 yds of 2-ply cotton. The cotton itself is rather slubby as it was drum-carded and not commercially prepared. It measures 43 wpi. Trivia fans may be interested to know that this bonnet weighs 4.8-4.9 gm!
