For those of us in my generation, we will never forget September 11, 2001,
but neither can we ever forget December 7, 1941 !!

May God bless and protect the United States of America and turn our hearts back to Him !!

The U. S. mainland was savagely attacked on September 11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked 4 commercial passenger airliners.
Two were viciously crashed into the twin towers at the World Trade Center in New York and another into
the Pentagon in Washington, D. C. The fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, short of its intended target,
because of the heroic efforts of some of the passengers who took the plane back from the hijackers,
knowing full well that it meant the death of all on the plane rather than multitudes more on the ground.

Our hearts and minds could not help but recall the brutal unprovoked sneak attack by the Japanese Empire
at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

However, on September 11, history will probably record more than 6,000 killed (though the final number is not
accurately known yet) .... more than the 2,388 killed at Pearl Harbor on December 7 .... more than the 3,082 killed
on D-Day, June 6, 1944, at the Normandy beaches .... more than the 5,885 lost in 1945 at Iwo Jima ....
and it compares closely with the battle of Okinawa, where the Army and the Marines lost a combined 7,229.

Everything has changed since September 11, 2001. The gravity of these events, and the sacrifices demanded of a nation,
was simply stated by President George W. Bush, who declared in an address at Washington’s National Cathedral that
“the commitment of our fathers is now the calling of our time.”

Early this morning, October 2, 2001, just before planning to finish this web page, I was very moved
when I heard the following prayer read by James Robison on the "Life Today" television program.
I was fortunate to find they had already placed a copy on their web site.

America Prays

Dear Lord,

We're still hoping we'll wake up. We're still hoping we'll open a sleepy eye and think, "What a horrible dream."
But we won't, will we, Father? What we saw was not a dream. Planes did gouge towers. Flames did consume our
fortress. People did perish. It was no dream and, dear Father, we are sad.

There is a ballet dancer who will no longer dance and a doctor who will no longer heal. A church has lost her priest,
a classroom is minus a teacher. Cora ran a food pantry. Paige was a counselor and Dana, dearest Father, Dana was only three years old.
(Who held her in those final moments?)

We are sad, Father. For as the innocent are buried, our innocence is buried as well. We thought we were safe.
Perhaps we should have known better. But we didn’t.

And so we come to you. We don’t ask for your help; we beg you for it. We don’t request it; we implore it. We know what
you can do. We’ve read the accounts. We’ve pondered the stories and now we plead, "Do it again, Lord. Do it again."

Remember Joseph? You rescued him from the pit. You can do the same for us. Do it again, Lord.

Remember the Hebrews in Egypt? You protected their children from the angel of death. We have children too, Lord.
Do it again.

And Sarah? Remember her prayers? You heard them. Joshua? Remember his fears? You inspired him. The women at the tomb?
You resurrected their hope. The doubts of Thomas? You took them away. Do it again, Lord. Do it again.

You changed Daniel from a captive into a king’s counselor. You took Peter the fisherman and made him Peter an apostle.
Because of you, David went from leading sheep to leading armies. Do it again, Lord, for we need counselors today, Lord.
We need apostles. We need leaders. Do it again, dear Lord.

Most of all, do again what you did at Calvary. What we saw here last Tuesday, you saw there that Friday. Innocence slaughtered.
Goodness murdered. Mothers weeping. Evil dancing. Just as the smoke eclipsed our morning, so that darkness fell on your Son.
Just as towers were shattered, the very Tower of Eternity was pierced.

And by dusk, heaven’s sweetest song was silent, buried behind a rock.

But you did not waver, O Lord. You did not waver. After three days in a dark hole, you rolled the rock and rumbled the earth
and turned the darkest Friday into the brightest Sunday. Do it again, Lord. Grant us a September Easter.

We thank you, dear Father, for these hours of unity. Christians are praying with Jews. Republicans are standing with Democrats.
Skin colors have been covered by the ash of burning buildings. We thank you for these hours of unity.

And we thank you for these hours of prayer. The Enemy sought to bring us to our knees and succeeded. He had no idea, however,
that we would kneel before you. And he has no idea what you can do.

Let your mercy be upon our President, Vice President, and their families. Grant to those who lead us wisdom beyond their years and experience.
Have mercy upon the souls who have departed and the wounded who remain. Give us grace that we might forgive and faith that we might believe.

And look kindly upon your church. For two thousand years you’ve used her to heal a hurting world.

DO IT AGAIN, LORD. DO IT AGAIN.

Through Christ, Amen.

Now that our President has called to to prayer ...
Now that our Congressmen have called us to prayer ...
Now that our State Governor has called us to prayer ...
Now that our State Senators have called us to prayer ...
Now that our city Mayor has called us to prayer ...
Now that the liberal media has called us to prayer ...
Now that our religious centers are calling us to prayer ...

And, now that most of the social organizations of our Nation have called us to pray for our Nation
and those involved in the recent terrorist acts against our great Nation, I have only one question:

"Honorable" Supreme Court Justices of the United States of America,

Is it OK to pray in school .......... now?

Excerpts from President George W. Bush's speech to Congress on Sepember 20, 2001.

.......... For the last nine days, the entire world has seen
for itself the state of our union, and it is strong.

       Tonight we are a country awakened to danger and called to defend freedom.
Our grief has turned to anger, and anger to resolution. Whether we bring our enemies to justice,
or bring justice to our enemies, justice will be done.

          On September the eleventh, enemies of freedom committed an act of war against our country.
Americans have known wars, but for the past 136 years, they have been wars on foreign soil,
except for one Sunday in 1941.

Americans have known the casualties of war but not at the center of a great city on a peaceful morning.
Americans have known surprise attacks but never before on thousands of civilians.
All of this was brought upon us in a single day, and night fell on a different world,
a world where freedom itself is under attack.
             

As long as the United States of America is determined and strong, this will not be an age of terror;
this will be an age of liberty, here and across the world.

       Great harm has been done to us. We have suffered great loss. And in our grief and anger
we have found our mission and our moment.

Freedom and fear are at war. The advance of human freedom, the great achievement of our time,
and the great hope of every time, now depends on us. Our nation, this generation, will lift a dark threat
of violence from our people and our future. We will rally the world to this cause,
by our efforts and by our courage.

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail.

               Freedom and fear, justice and cruelty, have always been at war, and we know
that God is not neutral between them.

       Fellow citizens, we will meet violence with patient justice assured of the rightness of our cause,
and confident of the victories to come. In all that lies before us, may God grant us wisdom,
and may He watch over the United States of America.     Thank you.

 

President Franklin D. Roosevelt's speech to Congress on December 8, 1941.      

  Yesterday, December 7, 1941 ~ a date which will live in infamy ~ the United States of America was suddenly and
deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
 

The United States was at peace with that Nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its Government
and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons
had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered
to the Secretary of State a form reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless
to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.

  It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days
or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese Government had deliberately sought to deceive
the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

  The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many
American lives have been lost. In addition American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas
between San Francisco and Honolulu.
 

Yesterday the Japanese Government also launched an attack against Malaya.  

Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.  

Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam.  

Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

  Last night the Japanese attacked Midway Island.  

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday
speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications
to the very life and safety of our Nation.
 

As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.   Always will we remember
the character of the onslaught against us.
  No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion,
the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
 

I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost
but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.
  Hostilities exist. There is no blinking
at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.
 

With confidence in our armed forces ~ with the unbounded determination of our people ~ we will gain the inevitable triumph ~ so help us God.
 
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December seventh,
a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire.
