Chattanooga High School
55th
Reunion, Class of 1946
September
14-15, 2001
(Playing ~ "String of Pearls")
The general feeling was ~ "They just
keep getting better." Also ~ "We want to keep having
reunions of
our class .... and five years is just too long to wait."
Well, this puts a lot of work and responsibility on
president Bill, so many may need to volunteer to help in some way.
Indeed, it was another banner weekend, this
55th reunion of the City High Class of 1946.
The reunion committee was composed of our lifetime president,
Bill Clift (with tremendous help, work
and support from wife Melba), Bob Templeton, Charlotte
Chamberlain Crevasse,
Arch Trimble and Tilda Caldwell Wall.
Ninety reservations were made ........ with
six people not able to attend ........ some because of
the inability to get a flight after the tragic events of
September 11. Here we were ......
the Class of 1946, the first class to graduate after the end of
The War, and another horrible attack
had just been launched on U. S. soil ..... the second such tragic
attack to be called
"a day that will live in infamy."
Our first gathering was on Friday evening
aboard the Southern Belle Party Barge on the Tennessee River.
It was a perfect place to renew friendships ~ for most of us, it
was the first time in five years.
The hors d'oeurves supper was great.
The weather was just perfect and remained so all weekend for all our events !
Saturday's catered picnic lunch at the Pot
Point House was a real delight .... and perhaps made even more so
because
the weather was so wonderful and the scenery so beautiful as we
drove along the Tennessee River at the
foot of Signal Mountain to reach our destination. We shared a
special afternoon together just talking,
eating, looking at some old annuals and taking advantage of the
scenery for lots of photo opportunities.
(The lunch was delicious ...... everyone got a wishbone/pulley
bone !)
Saturday night, our final evening together,
was a night to remember .....
at the elegant Walden Club atop The Republic Centre Building in
downtown Chattanooga.
We continued eating our way right through the weekend at the
lavish cocktail buffet set before us.
Throughout the evening, a trio treated us with music to our ears
....... selections from "our day"
....... and some took advantage of the opportunity to dance to
the familiar music.
We had no formal program, but president Bill did ask for
impromptu comments from several classmates.
A few photos I took are shown below as a
remembrance of our 55th reunion.
(also look for a nice surprise!)

This is a panorama pic made by Tom Cuthbert's wife Ernie. Tom
explained that it is a composite of two scenes,
and in the middle there is some multiple imaging where the two
scenes were joined in his software program.

which was also taken in front of our school building
in an attempt to reconstruct the 1944 picture. Sadly, Marion had
planned to attend,
and the pic would have been complete, but she was unable to fly
down from Pennsylvania
because of the Terrorist Attack on our Country on September 11th.
