GWGF Spring Fling ~ 2007
(Playing
~ "Breath of Heaven")
Continuing on .............
That's
me in orange ... yours truly, Carolyn. ... Imogene took this picture on
our patio out back
showing some of the beautiful mountain laurel and the wonderful
scenery.
On Tuesday, when we ate at the Black Mountain Bistro in Black
Mountain, we were all
impressed with Imogene's club sandwich and decided we needed that
picture for posterity!
Part
of the outdoor eating area at the Bistro .... Barbara, Imogene,
Nellie Faye, Theta and Marian.
It was just gorgeous but so windy they finally set up inside for
us. That's Barbara and Mattie
posing with the sweet, pretty little girl who served us. After
lunch, we enjoyed shopping in the
downtown area at Black Mountain.
Probably our biggest, all-out laughing
session occurred one night when Barbara read a story to us that
had
appeared in the Chattanooga newspaper: "A Note From Mom."
She could hardly read to us for laughing,
and we all laughed so hard it hurt!
After breakfast on Wednesday morn, Nellie
Faye regaled us with one of her wonderful stories.
She memorizes these spellbinding stories and tells them with such
mastery that you get caught up
in it and feel she's talking from personal experience!
I
consider this my "prize" picture of our Spring Fling
.... Olive Belle posed prettily in the wind
on a stone wall at the entrance lounging area at Grove Park Inn
in Asheville.
The next two pictures show all 15 of us ... both sides of the
table. We were served lunch on the Sunset Terrace
.... cool and breezy but not too much so .... which opens onto
the most fabulous view of the mountains
in the far distance. I can't describe it ... you just had to be
there! I did take two different pictures to try
to show this magnificence but shooting into the light made the
close-up of those pictures too dark.
Another
picture at the entrance gathering place at Grove Park Inn ...
clockwise: Theta, Ann, Charlotte, Olive Belle and Barbara. The
person in the background
over Barbara's shoulder is the man who took the group picture
when we arrived.
After we left Grove Park Inn, we traveled to Biltmore Village, a
great place to walk around, shop ...
and to find an ice cream store! I took this shot of Wanda at Yarn
Paradise where she left a few dollars
for the local economy. I understand many others, who shall remain
nameless, did the same ... and more!
Thursday
found us once again at Black Mountain where we enjoyed lunch at
the Coach House Seafood and Steaks.
Some shopped afterwards at the downtown area again and some opted
to drive back to Asheville and Biltmore Village.
On our last night, Mattie presented a game
called "The Girlfriends Box of Questions." It was lots
of fun
and brought many laughs, and sometimes uneasiness, as each person
picked a question to be answered.
Our
"official-unofficial" GWGF big brother Harrell came
early Friday morn to help
wherever needed with heavy packing chores before whisking Ann
back home.
We're shown here at the front porch of the lodge. Harrell's
patience seemed to know no bounds
as he took one more group shot after another with my camera and
many others!
One
final group picture Friday morn before we headed off in every
direction .....
this one to gather around the rustic stump at one side of the
lodge
Harrell
led us in a beautiful prayer before our departure,
and then we broke into "our" song ~
"The Lord Bless You and Keep You"
Our
goodbyes before departure are always difficult but we know/feel
we'll get together again in October
at Carson-Newman's homecoming and again at our next Spring Fling.
However, we're also cognizant
of the fact that we never know what the future holds .... however,
we do know Who holds our future!
"God Be With You Till We Meet Again"
