GWGF Spring Fling ~ 2008
(Playing ~ "Friendships")

Continuing on .............

These pictures were also taken at Tuesday's lunch ... Imogene, Lois Jean, Henrietta, Olive Belle, Hilna and Marian.
In the next picture Hilna and Imogene are enjoying a conversation with Ann.

When we left our luncheon at Grove Park Inn, some went on a brief shopping tour and a few of us went
with Celeste for a relaxing time at her beautiful and peaceful home before heading back to Ridgecrest.

Meanwhile, "back at the ranch," the electricity was back on, and Lois Jean and Hilna were in charge of our
supper Tuesday night ..... a delicious chicken casserole. You may find Lois Jean's recipe for the casserole on
one of the recipe pages on my web site .... click here:

Charlotte gave our devotional that night before time to "turn in." I've been noticing ... every year we seem
to be more eager to get to bed earlier ..... also to do less shopping and running around during the day!

Wednesday morn most everyone was able to make the trip for a tour of The Cove, the Billy Graham
Training Center. Hilna gave a beautiful mini concert in the chapel at The Cove.
The next picture shows those who made the tour .... Mattie, Marian, Imogene, Lois Jean, Hilna. Charlotte, Olive Belle.

While the others toured The Cove, this little trio of Wanda, Nancy and Carolyn held down the fort at
Tar Heel. At lunchtime, we went down to Black Mountain for a wonderful lunch at the Black Mountain Bistro.

Wednesday night we had a "split" supper (planned by Imogene, Marian and Mattie) since most everyone went
over to the convention center at Ridgecrest for a concert/program. (We could eat sandwiches before the
concert and again afterwards as desired.) The long-anticipated event featured the incomparable talent of
DINO at the piano and also Dennis Swanberg, a Christian humorist. Those of us who could not go stayed behind
and watched Jane Austin movies. Imogene gave the devotional that night.

Thursday we were anticipating spending the afternoon with Earlene. Some left early to shop and then everyone
met at the Black Mountain Bistro for lunch so we could be back at Tar Heel by the time Jewell brought Earlene.
It "made our day" for Earlene to be able to come for the afternoon!

Mattie had brought the colorful gift bags shown above with suggestions that everyone bring some small
items for each bag. Nellie Faye made the beautiful names done in Calligraphy which were clipped to the
front of each bag. This proved to be great fun!

In the other pic, Hilna, Imogene, Wanda and Earlene laugh as we go through everything in our bags on Thursday.

Almost every night someone assigned to the supper team was among the "missing." On Thursday
night, the only one left was Olive Belle. As usual, on the final night, there was absolutely no
reason to plan anything different so we enjoyed a good "leftover" meal from the previous nights.
Marian gave our devotional with music on her autoharp of some of the old songs we love.

Friday morn there was hurried coffee and snack breakfasts, packing to get away early so everyone could
get home at least by late afternoon and, as always, goodbyes and hugs. As we were packing our cars, the
renovators were patienty waiting to get back in as we learned there were still things planned for the lodge.

"The Lord Bless You and Keep You"

We missed our "big brother" Harrell this year. When he came on Friday mornings each year to
pick up Ann, he always helped the rest of us and, more importantly, sent us off with a prayer!

"God Be With You Till We Meet Again" ....
.... hopefully, at both Carson-Newman homecoming in October and again next year at Spring Fling!
