As you've already read, I completed a Masters degree in Tokyo, Japan and subsequently relocated to New York City in 2005. I can best be contacted via the email address listed above. If you have been accepted as a volunteer to Cape Verde, or if you are considering PC Service, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
During my Peace Corps service, I was permanently placed in a rural town located in a river valley on the island of Santiago. I was one of 2 volunteers (40 total volunteers in-country) who were Peace Corps Cape Verde's experiment to see how their new rural community development program would work. My house had no running water or electricity, which made for romantic nights by candlelight with my cats and cockroaches! I worked in conjunction with 3 agricultural associations and their villages to increase income generation and sustainable development programs in their communities. My hope is to establish a lifelong relationship with the Cape Verdean villages where I served, assisting in community development projects that will eventually light all houses, provide flush toilets for residents, paves the deteriorating cobblestone roads, and promote educational exchanges through scholarships for rural youth to visit other islands in the archipelago or study abroad! (approx. 70% of Santiago Island residents never leave the island due to financial constraints)
