You can go to a web site on public access to the internet in Davis, Californa by clicking on the title.
The reason this website has a URL geocities.com/davispublicaccess is that it was originally a site on public access to the internet in Davis, California. But a local organization, Davis Community Network, DCN, liked it so much they asked me to put it up on their system and gave me the resources to do it. My first and unfortunately still my only grant.
DCN is not nearly as easy to use as Geocities. I can not edit my DCN site on line except through a telex program which I do not have and do not want to learn to use.
Then why did I take DCN up on their offer? I wanted the honor of the grant. If the grant runs out my public access page may return to Geocities.
The public access site in Davis has been very successful. It is getting somewhere in the neighborhood of a 100 thousand page hits a year.
The success of this page can act as a model for other Geocities sites. Even if you are not one of the world's greatest experts on even a small topic, you can still put together a popular site on something local here on Geocities. I should note however that most of the hits do not come from local people seeking local information. Nevertheless, several thousand hits a year maybe local people seeking local information.
While this site may eventually see the return of its original material, I am currently using it as a place to put the work of a couple of friends.
This is the story of a friend's return to the Catholic Faith. I believe he was an English Professor, a Catholic brother, and a successful business executive at various times. He was involved in our prayer group. When he shared his spirituality with our prayer group his contributions were quite popular. This is a good reason to read his story.
He struggled to finish this just before he died. He wanted it published, but he did not want his name on it. About one person every three days visits one of the pages. I do not have any information on how often someone reads it.
As my friend sometimes ties his love life into his spirituality he disturbs some people so proceed with care.
I may move these stories eventually. For right now I like them here because they provide content that is not available any where else.
