These are some Ghia Prototype pics I found while looking through web sites. I took all the best ones I could find and put them all together. It's a shame that some of them never made it into production.

Here is a prototype of the very first, 1953 Karmann Ghia ever made.
A cabriolet prototype was also built. The window was too upright and the bumper overiders lacked the curviture of the production model.
Heres a close up of an alternative rear deck design on a Ghia cabriolet. The humps behind the seats give the feel of a true sports car but, sadly, it was another styling idea just ahead of production.
Here is a 1954 prototype.. notice the front fender has been changed on the first car to give the windshield a more upright position. A very unusual front bumper was also tested.
One last attempt to get things right...the tail light were given a more clumsy look and the roof was made higher to allow better headroom. But it remained just another prototype.
There had always been the possibility that VW would a 4 seater Karmann Ghia so Karmann was instructed to build a couple of prototypes to investigate the idea. However, neither of these designs progressed beyond the prototype stage.

Here's an interesting one. Notice that the rear fender line on this prototype is not included in the final design of the T34.
