Mouse's story actually
begins with another rescue. Hubby, Skip, had found an
injured hawk who was downed in a snowstorm. Of course he
brought it home and then we had to find a wildlife rehab
person who could care for it properly. We ended up
contacting Penny. She took the hawk, rehabed and returned
him to the wild. Several months later we received a
return call from Penny...she'd found an abandoned kitten.
Mouse had been abandoned at a shopping center and was living underneath and eating out of a dumpster. Penny had been trying to catch him for several days with no success. On the day of his rescue, Penny watched in horror as Mouse crossed traffic on Rt. 3 West, which is a very busy road. Mouse actually crossed underneath the wheels of 2 moving 18 wheelers! Penny almost had a heartattack and was amazed that this little guy made it in one piece. She grabbed him on the other side of the road! After searching around for more litter mates, Pen found there were none and brought this little guy home. I said bring him right over when she phoned and that's how we ended up with Mouse. He was so tiny, hence the name. This little ball of grey and white fur. We've since changed his name to Moose, the pics will show you why! Mouse settled right into the household, you would never know he started out to become a feral. He is the biggest cuddlebug and loves everyone, man and beast. Mouse is my ambassador cat. Each new rescue is met at the front door by Mouse and given the tour. He is amazing in the way he takes these broken babies under his wing. He and Miss Pickles are inseparable. He is her knight in shining armour. She depends on him to make her feel secure when things go haywire inside her head. Mouse has also travelled to a couple of schools to participate in humane education programs for children. This is one special cat!
