Simon is fighting for his life...

These are Dolores' e-mail updates, sorry I was so slow posting. :/

July 12, 2001-Hi All, Simon is back at the hospital. His right eye has impacted again. By the time I got him there,(15 min) it was swollen all the way up to his ear. His temp is 105.5* So, I think this time after we get rid of the infection,it's back to surgery to take care of this once and for all. Will keep posted.....poor baby Bug is doing great,he has an eye that he can use and we can see..it's great. Still waiting on Gumps results.

July 12, 2001-Simon is staying in the hospital tonite. His temp is down to 104.7*,and his socket is very infected.
He will have another drain tube.

July 15, 2001-Sorry,I have been keeping eagle eyes on Simon,fluids,drainage cleaning,etc.He still has a 103*temp, sleeps alot. Gump had to go back in for more bloodwork yesterday.The pathologist said he could have any number of things,and we now have to try to pinpoint what. It took about 10 tries to get blood,he is very anemic.He has slept since we got home,it wore him out. It's killing me sitting here watching him fade away,he is the sweetest creature,and he carries not only his wonderful soul,but the spirit of Schmekel...passed on to him by her. I can't tell more right now,hopefully tomorrow. Dolores

July 18, 2001-Was up til 2:00 with the baby trying to get his fever down. This morning he was wobbling and falling over,and refuses to eat. So Simon is back in the hospital. His temp was 106* after Amanda gave him sub-Q fluids this morning. It's down now,but for how long?? I will stay posted. I think he has an ear infection,and alot of nasal drainage.

July 18, 2001-The doc got Simon's temp down t 101* today,by the time I picked him up it was up to 105* again. She gave him another shot,and I have to give him a shot every 6 hours til the fever breaks. Shell, yes I do think the wobbling is from the ears,and the fever. He is asleep right now, Maggie can't figure out why he won't play with her. I know Dr. K will do everything to make him better,next is cultures to see where the infection is,besides his eye sockets. I hate this feeling of  inadequacy,not being able to make him better. I will keep you guys posted.

July 20, 2001-Put Simon back in the hospital this morning,I can't keep his fever down. Dr. K thinks there is more going on,so the bloodwork and cultures are being done. He is bringing up yellow,smelly stuff from his mouth,could be liver bile. He is rocking back and forth,which could be weakness,could be neurological,hard to tell with no eyes. I will keep you posted as I hear.If he has brain damage and is just loopy,that's okay.If the damage alters his lifestyle,I have to make a decision. It's all wait and see.Dr.K thinks stuff sprayed in his eyes has damaged organs. And the bastard is walking around having a great day.       Dolores

July 20, 2001-Simons body is so run down from the infections,he has contracted distemper. In the next few days,he will either live or die. He is so sick you guys,it would break your heart to see him. Dr.Kensek told me to take him to the Emergency Hosp for the night, I brought him home.I can do the meds here,and if he is going to die,he should be home. He is in the spare room in the playpen,right now he is resting. I will stay posted,I will be sleeping in there with him tonite. I hope he is a fighter like Bug...he needs to be.

July 23, 2001-At around 8:00 a.m. this morning,Simon lost his fight. We will bury him tonite,and light candles.I will post at that time,if anyone would like to light a candle for Simon. Amanda,Robert,and I were with him,and Andora was on the phone,he was not alone. There are alot of aching hearts here today. Dolores

They must have needed a very special angel across the Rainbow Bridge.

November 3, 2001-Simon's passing was a blow to everyone who's life he touched. His courage and struggle reminded us all that we cannot forget nor pass by those fur friends who's true beauty comes from within. I have received many inquiries about whether we were able to rescue Simon's siblings. Unfortunately we were not able to save them but, we hope to be able to save many more. Please support our new endeavor, the animals need you.
