Sweet Simon

He entered our lives unexpectedly
Through images that battered our hearts
His plight reached out to us wretchedly
We knew that we had to take part

Through strangers and miles and phone calls
His pain was quelled and soothed
His vision was physically ended
But somehow spiritually proved

He taught his message gently
To kind souls near and far
He showed us what miracle life is,
this kitten that knew no bar

When all were sure of his freedom
from pain and from suffering too
His body suddenly weakened
as his love and his following grew

We rallied and begged for his future
We prayed and lit candles and cried
He honestly tried with all that he had
but his body gave up... and he died

Don't let his message die with him
We owe his bright spirit much more
His soul was an open letter
That can change this harsh world to its core

Dear Simon, we'll walk with you someday
We'll visit with all we hold dear
Your courage and strength will guide us
But for now, we'll have to stay here.
