MARTIN:
| Ezra M. Martin began life as
a poor boy. He learned the carpenter's trade and as a young man located in
Warren, R.I.
|
| At the time of his death he
was president of the Hope National Bank of Warren, RI for 12 years.
|
| Died
highly respected, esteemed and honored, a man of position, influence and
means.
|
| Moved
to Warren, engaged in the lumber and building business with a Lewis Hoar
and named it E. M. Martin and son.
|
| In
1878 Ezra bought out Lewis Hoar and Joseph W. went into the business with
his dad.
|
| Ezra
was of a quiet, domestic turn , but didn't shirk his duties.
|
| He
became a member of the common council of Warren in 1855 and served until
1888.
|
| Belonged
to the Methodist Episcopal Church in Warren, taught Sunday scool and was
an active church worker.
|
| A
musician and a member of the church choir.
|
| In
his early years he played a cello.
|
