A further note about Deborah Cole: VRS, p. 109, contains this entry: ³Manassah the Son of Manassah Martin and of Deborah Cole was born November ye 20:1706.² It appears that nearly all other birth entries in VRS are annotated with ³his wife² after the wife¹s first name. This entry would indicate that the parents were not married. No other Deborah Cole appears in the Swansea records at this time. A Manassah Martin was b. in Swansea on 2 Feb 1681, the son of ³John & Joan Marten.²

Deborah Cole, b. 11 Feb 1682. Hodges MS, p. 220.5, copied from Swansea Records, Book A, p. 1, says: ³Deborah dau. of Hugh Cole Jr. b. Feb 11, 1(torn. Index says 1681. The preceding date is 21 June 1680; the following date Sept 4, 1682; and all births on the page are arranged chronologically. The Index was prob. taken before the date was mutilated. It was doubtless 1681, i.e. 1681/2.).² VRS, p. 3, says: ³Deborah the daughter of (crossed out: Samuel and Mary Luther) Hugh Cole Jr born Feb:11:1704². This entry appears between 1680 and 1682, just as the Hodges MS reports. Deborah¹s birth is not listed in Mason, Swansea Records. E.B. Cole, p. 33, lists two daughters named Deborah, one b. 11 Feb 1682 and another born 11 Feb 1704. Note also that two Deborahs are not named in John Allen¹s will. It is probable that the 1704 date is incorrect and that there were not two daughters named Deborah. Perhaps the Deborah b. in 1704 was really the daughter of Samuel and Mary Luther, the crossing out and rewriting of the date being done by a later clerk.

Deborah m. 1712 to John3 Cole, son of John2 and Elizabeth (Ryder) Cole. Hodges MS, from Swansea Records, Book B, p. 88, says, ³ŒJohn Cole the son of John m. dabroth Cole December 1712.¹ The Index says this was Deborah4 daughter of Hugh3 Cole Jr.² VRS, p. 182, reports that on p. 89 of the orginal record a second entry for this marriage says: John Cole (ye Son of John Cole Deceased) and Debroght Cole ware married November ye 4:1712.²
