About John Marsden
John Marsden was born in 1950, in Melbourne, Australia. When he was two years old, he moved to Kyneton, Victoria, where he stayed until he was six years old. His family moved again, in 1956, to Devonport, Tasmania. John went to school there, and at the age of ten, he moved again to Sydney. During his time at Devonport, John developed a love for reading. His favourite authors included Enid Blyton, Nan Chauncy and Agatha Christie.
At Sydney, John attended the King's School, in Parramatta. It was a very strict school, and while there, John received a number of academic awards.
At the age of 19, John began an Arts/Law degree at the University of Sydney, but soon stopped his studies and took up a number of part time jobs such as collecting blood, working on a sideshow and looking after a mortuary.
When John was 28, he decided to be a teacher. He began by teaching English at Bathurst's All Saints College, and from there he has taught at a variety of different schools.
In 1987 John published his first book, So Much To Tell You, and now teaches writing workshops on the Tye Estate, Melbourne.
