A number of bluefin tuna boats harbor in the Saco River because it provides good access to Tantas and Jeffrey's Ledges in the North Atlantic where giant bluefin fishing heats up each fall. Groundfish like the cod shown here can be caught on the ledges too. The Saco River estuary and harbor also provides excellent fishing for striped bass and bluefish in a quiet downeast setting. Best times to visit are just before Memorial Day and after Labor Day.
