Descendants of William Beswick

Notes

1. William Beswick

Records indicate that William Beswick, son of Richard Beswick, was christened at Brompton by Sawdon, Yorkshire, England in 1771. He was apparently married three times prior to coming to Quebec in 1822 with his third wife, Hannah Petty, and
older children. This family who embraced the Methodist cause settled early in Stottsville. Three of William's children married into the Stott family and another into the Goforth family.

Oldest son Richard Beswick, a school teacher, Methodist class leader and trustee of the Odelltown Methodist Church, was married to Juelema VanVliet. By the mid 1850s Richard and Juelema owned property along the NY/Quebec border in the third
concession south of domain.

Second son Charles resided on lot 21 of the third concession, in the parish of St. Valentine, north of Lacolle Village. He was a Councillor and Lieutenant in the local Militia.
