1. Mark Elvidge

Mark Elvidge and first wife Elizabeth Burton came to Canada from Kilham, Yorkshire, England around 1820 farming first in the parish of LaTortue near Montreal. They came to Lacolle in the fall of 1822 when Mark acquired lot 46 on the 4th
concession south of domain from Joseph Odell and Edmond Weldon. By 1850 the Elvidges owned additional lots along the US border where they operated a store.

Mark Elvidge fought in the Papineau Rebellion in the 1830s and established farms for his sons. He remarried after the death Elizabeth Burton in 1847. Most of the early members of the family are buried in the Jackson Cemetery at Beaver Meadows
near "Elvidges Corners".

Yorkshireman Mark Elvidge fought in the Papineau Rebellion. Mark and his three sons Christopher, Mark and John were settled near each other in LaColle, Quebec in 1851. At this time Mark was married to Hannah ______. His first wife and
mother of the children, Elizabeth Burton had died. The family came from the parish of Kilham, Yorkshire, England, an area near the east coast.
