Mrs. Florence Ann [Hewson] Carr relates, "Thomas Hodgson emigrated with his father, Jonathan Hodgson from the Stanhope area of County Durham in 1818 and initally settled just south of the Burtonville Cemetery, a neighbor to Thomas Hewsons.
A few years later, Thomas Hodgson lived and worked around Isle LaMotte but his father Jonathan went to the Clintonville area of Clinton county. Thomas Hodgson then returned to farm in the Burtonville area in the mid 1830's.
