Biography

Laura Dugan: The Life of a Sailor

I was born on a cold winter's night in late August (the 29th, to be exact)... The sun had just come up over the horizon when Mama started feeling the pains... I remember it all so clearly: Pa had just fed the chickens and was getting ready to milk the goat when he heard my brother Jethro come 'a runnin' towards him with news that it was Mama's time...

Oh wait, that's the Waltons.

In real life, I was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, a city that would do well to be burnt to the ground and be rebuilt. I spent most of my life living next to Hershey, PA, where chocolate was a rare commodity which we traded to each other for scraps of food and hair pins.

I went to a very ordinary high school, with ordinary friends, and came to Capitol College, which makes no sense seeing as I don't like computers and fear technology. And they really are after me, I swear.

I'm totally obsessed with pop culture - TV, movies, and such - and went to graduate school to obtain a master's degree in Professional Writing. I hope one day to be a published novelist, editor, wife to Mike Rowe, or professional toothbrush maker. Basically, I'm open to anything creative.

Some interesting (or not so interesting) information about me:

  • I have an uncanny ability to recall useless General Hospital trivia, including information from before I was born.
  • I used to participate in an online General Hospital role play. I played several characters, including Alexis. My Alexis had three children, Annika Thomopoulis (via Tony Thomopoulis - look him up on Google), and Kristin Allidia and Valeria Aleksandra, twins by Ned.
  • I have a computer named Sorkin, a laptop named Ingo, a car named CeeCee (previous cars: Bob, Steve, Maurice, and Lola), and I've been through the desert on a horse with no name.
  • My favorite actor is, and will always be, Nancy Lee Grahn, no matter who else pops up on TV or in the movies and no matter what piece of crap storylines they give her. She is the Katharine Hepburn of this generation.
  • One of my best friends is Arica. We met over the internet WAY back before it was the cool thing to do. We were pioneers! People will remember us! I've since met Gretchen and Pip, my other Internet buds.
  • I got my BS in Software and Internet Applications, May 17, 2003.
  • On May 22, 2005 I received my MS in Professional Writing from Towson University.
  • Career wise, I'll probably continue to do publications work, though ideally I'd love to be a published novelist (who wouldn't?) or anything in media, really.
  • I currently work as a senior marketing/communications specialist for the Iowa Foundation for Medical Care. Whew. That's a mouthful. Basically, I spend most of my time dealing wtih this website: www.medqic.org.
  • My Family: Dad (Dave), Mom (Diane), Brother (David), Sister (Elizabeth), brother-in-law (Michael), sister-in-law (Renee), and niece (Alyssa). And of course, my MikeRowe (cat).
  • I can't live without: ice cream, Internet access and television.
  • Hobbies: writing, reading, and watching movies and musicals.
