The crashed O-1 is annotated. The SAR report mentions the river looked like a dye marker had been dropped in it. It was the color of the water from a certain angle. River was very shallow and the aircraft is on a mud or sand bank. The photo is a tail on view. The left wing had crumpled on impact and looks like a tail to the left. After studying the photos I am convinced that there is a AAA gun of the 12.7mm (.50 cal) class in the clearing on the lower left hand part of the photo as well as a camoflaged hooch on the treeline. Thankfully it was not our time. (Copyright Thomas E. Lee 1968, 1999-2004)
