Fishing at Wiley Point Lodge, September 22-28,
2002 |
My second year at Wiley Point Lodge was quite
a bit better than the first. The weather was much better! Fall fishing
was quite a bit different, but we soon figured out where the fish were
hiding. This year, Vicky, Lydie and I drove to St. Louis, then Vic and I
drove 1000 miles to Totem Lodge on Lake of the Woods.
I didn't actually construct this page until September, 2004, so my memory
on all of the details is a bit rusty. Nevertheless, the pictures below are
just as accurate as the day they were taken. Click on them for larger versions.

![](images/Image002_small.JPG) We met this dock pet at Totem Lodge
as they were loading our gear onto the boat that would ferry us out to
Wiley Point Lodge. |
![](images/Image003_small.JPG) Sunshine, cigar and FISH!!
Mack is happy! |
![](images/Image004_small.JPG) One of many pike Mack met this trip.
|
![](images/Image005_small.JPG) We counted the pores on the jaw convinced
this was a muskie, but it was a pike. Strange coloration. Maybe a tiger muskie
(pike/muskie hybrid)?
|
![](images/Image006_small.JPG) Nevertheless, it was a big one! Happy, Happy,
Joy, Joy! |
![](images/Image007_small.JPG) Victor turned 58 today!! Happy Birthday, Pa!!
|
![](images/Image008_small.JPG) Cute pike in Wiley Bay. We were starting to
figure out pikes' fall hiding places. |
![](images/Image009_small.JPG) In a bay west of Crow Rock Island, Vic caught
this huge smallie. |
![](images/Image010_small.JPG) We ate lunch in that same bay. Pretty views
abound on this lake. A beaver kept busy as we ate. |
![](images/Image011_small.JPG) Vic taught me that if you hold the fish out toward
the camera, they look more impressive. He's in the process of teaching me how to catch
more impressive fish. |
![](images/Image014_small.JPG) Deep in Micrometer Bay. Looks like good fishin'
to me! |
![](images/Image015_small.JPG) Looked like great bass fishing, so I was using
my favorite crankbait "Excalibur" and ultralite rig. This pike scared the SHIT out of
me by inhaling the lure as I was lifting it out of the water!! |
![](images/Image016_small.JPG) That pike cut my 6lb test as it rolled on the floor
of the boat. Almost lost my precious Excalibur! The rush was well worth the risk! |
![](images/Image017_small.JPG) I decided to take close-ups of each type of fish
we caught. This is a walleye. |
![](images/Image018_small.JPG) Another shot of that walleye. BIG POINTY TEETH!!
|
![](images/Image019_small.JPG) Vic caught it, by the way. |
![](images/Image020_small.JPG) I believe we were in Portage Bay when I caught this
pike. Pretty fish - not too big, but no scars. |
![](images/Image021_small.JPG) A close-up of a Northern Pike. They have VERY
SHARP TEETH!! It wouldn't open its mouth for me, though. |
![](images/Image022_small.JPG) Another nice smallmouth bass. |
![](images/Image023_small.JPG) A close-up of that smallmouth bass. No teeth.
|
![](images/Image024_small.JPG) This was the first largemouth bass (black bass)
Vic had ever seen on Lake of the Woods. We caught many more after this one!! |
![](images/Image025_small.JPG) This was a pretty nice northern. |
![](images/Image026_small.JPG) Another smallie. |
![](images/Image027_small.JPG) Another REALLY nice pike. |
![](images/Image028_small.JPG) Here's a close-up of a largemouth bass. No teeth,
large mouth. |
![](images/Image029_small.JPG) Vic and his first largemouth bass on this lake.
|
![](images/Image030_small.JPG) Another black bass. Portage Bay was a GOOD place
to fish! |
![](images/Image032_small.JPG) One last shot before we left. What a week!!
