Fishing at Wiley Point Lodge, May 27 - June 3, 2006
This was my fifth trip to Lake of the Woods. Tom was back this time, and Jim Hill decided to see if he still hated fishing. The weather was pretty good again this year, but it was a bit windy at times. We had an exciting time returning to the lodge one day due to the 4-foot surf. We all got very, very wet.

For the record, Jim lost a hat and almost a rod, and Tom almost lost a hat. We all caught fish. Jim is credited with most of the pictures. Mack is credited with catching the most fish, and Tom is credited with catching the heavyest fish.

Anyway, click on the images below for larger versions. Enjoy!

On the bus at the airport in Winnipeg.

Der!

I could break that camera with a twitch of my Kung Fu pinky.

I'm cool!

A loon on her beaver-lodge-nest in Joe's Bay

Bambi!

Another loon in Big Narrows

This was the first big fish of the week, caught in Joe's Bay (of course!)

Nice northern. Nice Bozo the Clown hair, too!

Next door in Steamboat Channel, Bozo caught this muskie.

Not to be outdone, Tom lands his first nice muskie.

And then a nice pike.

In the small, southern channel of Big Narrows, I caught this 38.5" muskie. Longest of the trip, but not the heaviest.

The bar has been set. Here, Tom "becomes the fish".

Meanwhile, Bozo just keeps fishing.

It was pretty windy one day. This tree didn't make it.

Power, precision, and accuracy!

Several trees' root systems were peeled from the rock by the wind.

Tom the Fish Squeezer lives on!

How cute (the incredibly small perch in the foreground)! Hey Tom, I'll give you a dollar if you bite it's head off!

NO! NO! TOM!! I was just kidding Tom! Ewww!

A herd of turtles.

Kung Fu fisherman!

We came upon this scrawny deer in Portage Bay at lunchtime.

We finally found where the smallies were spawning in Portage Bay.

Smooch!

Tom caught this nice smallie.

A better shot of that nice smallie.

Jim finally realized that we'd better get a shot of him with a fish.

Another pike.

A nice wally! Now where's that hook?

Take two asperin, and call me in the morning.

Tom with another nice pike.

Mack with a nice pike.

And Jim with a nice pike.

Jim's on a roll! Portage Bay rocks!

Pretty birdies.

On our way out of Portage Bay, Jim spotted this eagle quite unafraid of us in a tree on the waterline.

Next day and more smallie action.

Quite clearly, mine's bigger!

Nice smallie, Jim!

Worth a smooch!

Fouled this minnow in the back.

Probably the largest perch of the trip!

While trolling around the weedbeds of Joe's Bay, Tom landed this MONSTER muskie. Suprisingly, it was only 38" long but stouter than anything else on the trip! Good job, Tom!!

Jim tries to outdo Tom's muskie. Close Jim, but no cigar, though it is a nice smallie.

On our way through Tranquil Channel to Red Water Bay, we came across a baby bear crossing the channel. After a few moments of excitement, we became uneasy wondering where mama was!

Doulbe smallies in Red Water Bay!

Immediately followed by double perch (note the common angler in these photos?)

And that's that! Stay tuned for next year!!
