Pause a moment and picture in your mind an audience of ten thousand persons gathered to watch and listen to the National Symphony Orchestra. How vast the audience. How small the stage, with the musicians and conductor upon it. Now think of the whole world, the entire universe, as being on stage. The audience is God; so vast, so great is He. God, Himself, has orchestrated all of this, and He said that it was good.Did you ever listen to the sound of a mountain stream, laughing, gurgling and tumbling over the rocks? Have you sat beside a rushing river, or perhaps the ocean with its waves ever rolling in? Did you hear the musical voice of the waters flowing?
Have you ever walked among the trees to watch them sway and listen to them sing in the breeze? Have you heard the north wind whistle around the corner of the house on a cold winter's night? Have you noticed the mockingbird high up on the power line singing his heart out to impress his mate?
Have you watched the honey bees buzzing as they diligently gather nectar from the flowers on a hot summer's day, and then observed them that night sitting in the doorway of their hives fanning with their wings to keep the hive cool so the wax in it will not melt? What a wondrous, melodious sound is this.
All creation is dancing, singing, crying, laughing, praying, praising, applauding, preaching, teaching. God's ear ever listens to these sounds of creation as His eye watches these actors and musicians on stage.
God's plan was that all would remain in tune with precision timing and pleasing rhythm, but the "orchestra" did not perform as well as He had planned. A sour, harsh note sounded which disturbed the melody and brought disharmony whenever Satan crept into the orchestra. So God in His infinite wisdom sent His Son, giving Him preeminence, to be the conductor, to rescue, heal, and bring the orchestra back into harmony. When everyone and everything which is out of harmony has gone out of the orchestra, God will be happy. And He knows this will come about. It's in His plan. His Son, the Conductor, Jesus Christ, and every musician will be together in perfect tune and rhythm glorifying Him. God has given us a picture of this perfect harmony in His Holy Word, in the book of Revelation.
The prophets of the old Testament were the musicians who played "first chair." Today it's the preacher pastor who plays "first chair." The first chair musician is closest to the Conductor. He fine tunes his instrument to the Conductor's pitch. He must be in perfect tune with the Conductor, for only the Conductor knows exactly what the Orchestrator intended every sound to be, and the tone coming from each and every instrument must be true. All instruments, then, must be tuned to the Conductor, through the "first chair," to finally know the Orchestrator.
The Conductor raises his baton and all is in harmony. We hear the Love Song of God in all the flowing waters of life, just as God, himself, hears it. We are either dancing in tune with God, or we are off-key. The music flows along sweetly, peacefully and restfully. Suddenly the Conductor points His baton to the drummer....a loud blast of sound....then slowly diminishing....a mountain has just erupted and the red hot lava flows down destroying all that is in its path.
We must listen carefully to every word from the Bible. It is given to us as a gift that we might see and hear this Love Song in the waters of life, and seek with all our souls to get in tune with the Conductor, with faith in Him to bring us into harmony. Only then will we have found our true place in His history. Listen and watch the Conductor cause everything to flow as the Father, the Orchestrator, has planned. (Mark 13: 33, 35(NKJ) "Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is." "Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming--in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning--.")
We go about our daily lives unaware that we are moving in the plan of God toward one purpose. We are his special instruments. Has your string broken? Has your sound post or bridge fallen over? He waits close by as your repairman.
God is so vast, all creation so small in comparison. Yet to us all creation looks so vast that we as persons seem very small. Still we're the most brilliant of stones being polished by His Conductor to give off His light and to play His sweet Love Song forever in His orchestra. I pray we will seek to get in tune that we may keep singing "Oh, how He loves you and me.... To Calvary He did go.... What more can He say than to us He has said?.... Oh how He loves you and me."
