We have a wondrous treasure here that we delight to hold.
Not a “something” but a “someone” more priceless than pure gold.
A new life has come to dwell here and has made our lives complete.
Our precious little baby, small and tender, soft and sweet.
We hold you close to us, sweet babe, and in your face we see
God’s love and grace and mercy come to us. Oh, there will be
such joy overflowing in our hearts day after day.
We’re blessed to watch you growing as we work and as you play.
There’ll be teddy bears and picture books and toys scattered ‘round.
Bright new teeth, wobbly steps, smiles, and tears, and frowns.
Sleepy eyes and tousled hair, untied shoes and more...
missing socks and building blocks stacked upon the floor.
A cookie with a glass of milk, a brief pause for a hug.
Smelling flowers, climbing trees, staring at a bug.
Bikes, balloons and birthday cakes and scrapes on tender knees.
Splashing in rain puddles, giving “puppy” a tight squeeze.
Skipping off to Sunday School to hear the teacher read
the stories from the Bible, placing in your heart the seed
that will someday blossom into love for Jesus. And we’ll pray
God’s hand will be upon you as you go along life’s way.
Lord help us be good parents, let us never fail to see
we need the strength and guidance that can only come from Thee,
to teach this child to keep your Word and hide it in his heart,
and train him in “Thy way,” from which he never will depart.
