January 24, 2002 Canada NewsWire: Queer as Folk breaks ratings record with Season Two premiere TORONTO, January 24: The second season of Queer as Folk is off to a record-breaking start, with the season premiere bringing in a total of 343,000 viewers (Monday, January 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT; courtesy of NMR) -- the highest single-play performance of any series in Showcase history. The final episode of the first season ended in a cliffhanger as Justin (Randy Harrison) was taken to the hospital after a serious blow to the head from a homophobic classmate. Viewers tuned in on Monday to find Justin suffering post-traumatic anxiety and damage to motor functions in his right arm after the bashing -- he can't remember the fateful night and Brian (Gale Harold) can't forget it.
