We gave Akira...

Berlinda says:
Hello Robbie

Rob says:
Hello Berlinda...

Berlinda says:
We are here to review the dvd, Akira

Rob says:
Yes we are!
Say Berlinda, have you seen Akira?

Berlinda says:
No, I have not, and I have no plans to. You see, as you may already know, I am no fan of Anime, let alone the Anime porn you watch.

Rob says:
Well, its a good thing that Akira is not anime porn, or hentai, as fans of the medium call it.

Berlinda says:
Yes you are very familiar with that term...anyway, as a warning to parents, this may be a cartoon but it is definitly NOT for little kids.

Rob says:
That is one thing we can agree on, the amount of violence and adult content in this flick is definately not for kids or even young teenagers in my opinion.

Berlinda says:
Yup, that's why it is rated "R". Now that we got that out of the way, I hear that this movie is actually a little old. Is that right Rob?

Rob says:
Yes, as most of the good anime dates back to the 80's, the heyday of cartoons in general in my opinion. I have come to find out that most of the anime series and movies that i like orginated out of the 80's. Shows such as Gundam Wing, Robotech and even the current favorite DragonBall series came from the eighties. Also, in my opinion, the best american cartoons came from that era, including the Americanized anime, Thundercats. Definately a personal favorite, and a favorite of a whole generation of youngsters that grew up loving saturday morning cartoons and Michael Jackson. Another example that I am sure most people remeber is Voltron. In today's saturday morning scheduale, there are rehashings of old favorites such as Voltron and our beloved transformers, but none come close to the originals. This makes me sad, but also makes me glad that I grew up in the generation that I did, I have found that it has allowed me to appreciate good quality programing like we had back in the day. Today's kids are growing up watching mindless banter like Pokemon and the countless new "anime" cartoons that are on every station saturday morning. message. G.I. Joe had a little thing at the end of each episode telling whats wrong and whats right to little kids, nowadays, children throw rocks painted white and red at the ground and expect pocket monsters to pop out, I'm sorry kiddies, but you should pull your heads out of your @$$e$, cuz this is the real world, this isn't pokeworld, and without the cartoons of yore, these kids aren't going to know the difference between a dog and a pikachu if it came up and bit him in the @$$.

Berlinda says:
Well, that was interesting. Anyway, Rob also bragged about the surround sound on this movie, something about how the killing sounds great, what was that again?

Rob says:
Well, the sound is trully brilliant, a feast for the ears, unique explosions, the likes of which I have not seen in a live-action movie as of yet. The sound of buildings crumbling and glass shattering as a child screams is simply awesome, definately one to show the friends if you have a surround sound system. One of my favorite sound sequences is when the opening motorcycle battle occurs, boy o boy, its a keeper.

Berlinda says:
Yes, I want to hear children screaming in surround sound...how about the video...was it clear?

Rob says:
The picture was beautiful, the transfer was simply flawless, I don't think i saw one bit of dust nor any scratches on the film, it was really really a beautifully animated film, a real centerpiece of what this genre is all about.

Berlinda says:
Which would be porn.

Rob says:
Just because it shows one set of breasts in the movie does not qualify it as a porn my dear. If there was an orgy, and more than one set of breasts, then I might be more able to agree with you, but... I can't.

Berlinda says:
Uh huh...well, how about the special features? Were they good?

Rob says:
This, sadly is the only point it is lacking, and lacking drastically I may add. There is a little feature that when activated, a little pill pops up when you are watching the movie, and you have to hit enter, and basically, it translates some of the japanese writings that may be written on the wall or on a piece of paper. Other than that, its a no show for the special features.

Berlinda says:
Ouch, that sounds like it sucks.

Rob says:
Ok, so now the movie itself. To me, a really good quality story right here. All the cast members are well defined and the plot is just engrossing, this is no dumb kids movie either, there is some fairly technical stuff in here that you can lose track of with all the jargon, if your not careful. The story focuses on a boy who is taken by a government agency and the experimented on, and these experiments wind up giving the boy super powers (telekinesis), and at the same time, lose his grip on reality, a movie thats right up my alley, (I loves them super powers!)

Berlinda says:
Ok, so what rating do you give the movie itself?

Rob says:
The movie itself, i give 4 stars.
The sound I am going to give 4 and one half stars.
The video transfer, 5 stars, I didn't see nothing wrong with it.
Special features, a quarter of a star... (pssst... can we give quarter stars?)

Berlinda says:
Sure we can.....and finally, the anime porn movie Akira gets an overall rating of.....

Rob says:
Five Star! Those soft supple br... I mean, zero stars for the nudity, I HATE nudity!

Berlinda says:
NOT THAT!!! Overall, as a dvd what do you rate Akira?

Rob says:
Ooooooooooo, damn, well, I will give this disc an overall four star rating.

Berlinda says:
Ok, you heard it people, Akira gets four stars, even though the special features suck (you can send your complaints to Rob here).

Rob says:
Yea, well, the sound video and movie were topnotch, it made me almost not care that there wasn't a comentary, cuz that could have explained sooo much, but, what can you do. Thank you all for coming tonight out there in tv land, I hope you had a good time with us, cuz we had a good time with you!

Berlinda says:
Goodbye!!

Rob says:
Yes, we WILL say hi to Mr. McFeely for you. Adios amigos!
