We gave Conan the Barbarian...

Berlinda says:
Hello Rob.
Rob says:
Hello Berlinda
Berlinda says:
We are here to review the movie Conan the Barbarian, one of Arnold's first works.
Rob says:
Yes and to some one of his best. This Movie tells the story of how Conan became the man that he did, a cunning warrior with a lust for blood and women. It tells the story of a young Conan who is captured and made a slave where he basically becomes a gladiator, and once set free, he goes out to the new world meeting new allies and old enemies. Schwarzenegger is the perfect cast for a Barbarian, and this role is almost tailor made for him. A great Arnold flick, and a great movie if you love blood and Ah-nold!
Berlinda says:
This movie has lots of nudity in it, so if you have only seen it on TV you might be surprised...
Rob says:
Yes, I was. As the opening suggests, he trully does earn the lamentations of the women, Conan was the original man-whore.lol.
Berlinda says:
I think I fell asleep during this movie, or I was grossed out by all the nudity, I can't remember. Anyways, I remember some pretty violent stuff, so please, keep little kids out of the room, they shouldn't be watching naked women and decapitations.
Rob says:
Or should they... anyhow I must say the transfer is great what the production team did to restore the quality of the film is awesome. There are only a couple of scenes that still needed some cleaning up, but I'm not going to complain as the negative was soo old. But these guys did a truly great job. The same goes with the extras, a great job. They pulled in a commentary, stills from the movie's filming, character art and a host of other stuff, real good quality stuff here, way better than the bare bones edition that was first released. The only beef I do have with the disc is the sound, I could have sworn when I read the box that i was gonna be getting surround sound, but when I popped the disc in, and turned it on, nothing came from my rear speakers, not even after playing with all the dials on my reciever, boy was I miffed, but for the age of the movie and the equipment they had back then, I guess this will suffice, but they really, really could have done more with it, I mean, if they can make "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" in 5.1, then they can do it for conan too.
Berlinda says:
Are you arguing with me again about whether or not children should be exposed to nudity and violence?
Rob says:
No, it was a joke, please don't get up on that soapbox...
Berlinda says:
Fine. I think the extras were neat, the sound sucked, and the movie was ok. Oh, the visuals were ok too. I give the dvd overall a 3 or 3.5
Rob says:
The sound a 2, the video a 3 and a half, the movie a 3 and a half and the special features a 4. I am a huge Arnold fan, but compared to new movies, this is good, but its not great, so overall I will give it a 3 and 1/2 stars.
Berlinda says:
Now I have a question for you...I know you loved this movie because you watched it as a child on tv...were you disappointed because of the high expectation yuo had? In any aspect at all?
Rob says:
Yes, actually that's why I gave it a lower rating than I would have if I hadn't seen the movie recently, I came in thinking this movie is gonna rule, and it did, but just not nearly as much as my psyche led me on to believe.
I am excited that they are looking to make a part three though, should be really good, I always thought that they should have continued the story past the two movies they made. I always wanted that line, "But that is another story..." to be a reality, and it looks like we might finally get it!
Berlinda says:
Well, that's good. So, you heard it, Conan the Barbarian gets a 3...I can't imagine what the original (not Special Edition) dvd would have gotten.
Rob says:
A three and one half thank you.
Berlinda says:
Oh, excuse me.
Rob says:
The old one, probably a 1 or so.
See ya'll later!
Berlinda says:
Ok everybody, see you next time!
