Saguache, Colorado
West Side of Main Street - Means Block

We will start this tour of the town of Saguache at the County Courthouse then proceed north on the west side of 4th (Main Street).  At Denver Avenue we will turn south and continue with the east side of Main Street returning to the courthouse.

The present courthouse was built in 1910 after the original courthouse was gutted by fire in the spring of that same year.  The courthouse is located in the Means Addition, a few feet south of where Otto Means’ home and store stood.  This is where Means wanted the first courthouse to be built in 1881, but in a power struggle he lost out to Nathan Russel who had the building erected in Russel Addition which is six blocks west of here.  That entire Russel Addition Block is currently owned by Joe and Jennie Lujan.
