Building a Sawmill Shed


With winter fast approaching, Mike was keen to get some kind of shelter up to protect the sawmill from the elements. He also wants the sawmill on a semi-permanent foundation to support a level playing field.

Clearing area and leveling - August 2001

Sawmill Shed area Mike went back and forth with a borrowed leveling blade on the back of the tractor. This is the area leveled out, and it shows we have already got started with the concrete piers. 

Digging 12" holes for the concrete - September 2001

Rufus looks on as 6" auger digs support holes for sawmill itself Rufus was very curious about the auger and the holes...but you'll be glad to hear, this is as close as he got.

Two customized forms - just for fun First forms for the shed roof support. These are a little customized, just for fun.
6" auger for the support structure for the sawmill itself. Forms for the sawmill support used a 6" auger.
Just to give some perspective - where the sawmill shed will be in relation to the camp fire Just to give a little perspective. This photo shows where the sawmill shed is in relation to our camp fire. Well there'll be lots of wood to burn right?

Putting up the piers - September 2001

DeWalt Compound sliding miter saw - Mike's xmas pressie of 2000 in use. Cutting the posts. Incidentally - all of these posts were from trees we cut on our land, and were made using the sawmill...of course.
