5:07am Wednesday 14Feb07

Slow brain this morning. Promised myself that I'd get back into my 4am risings but lazed in bed until 4:30am. Cats are restless mewing all over the place. Already had a grapefruit. Sitting in my writing chair with my legs in the yoga position. I feel more like staring into space rather than focusing on coherent thoughts.

It's Valentine's Day, whatever that means. Doesn't exactly mean all that much to me. Don't want any chocolates since I'm off sugar. Mind you I did have some cookies last night at the reception for the ALOUD festival (a celebration for Young Readers). I suppose I could have been more organized and taken a few days off for the festival, but alas I was too stunned to be organized.

The author's they have for the festival are Tim Wynne-Jones, Peter Abrahams, Mary Louise Gay & David Homel, Tom Henighan, James A. Owen, Melanie Watt, and Deborah Ellis.

The boys have been exceptionally bad again at work. They've been teaming up to bug me. Pasting posters in my bathroom. Piling things outside my bathroom for when I come out. Locking me out of the lunch room. Teasing me. And just plain being brats from the moment I get in to work until it's time to go home. It's always amusing when they work together to drive me crazy. It's always amusing seeing how much fun it is for grown men to find ways to pick on me. I may have to stick my foot up someone's ass today, just because I can.

The new boss comes in tomorrow to meet his new team. Should prove interesting, uncomfortable smiles and the like. It's time for a shake up. Now if I could shake up my personal life a little. We'll see how that pans out.

Henry David Thoreau
Topic: Inspiration
Monday 11:48pm 12Feb07

Was about to go to bed and decided I'd read another page before I go down. I've pulled out the book, Wabi Sabi for Writers by Richard R. Powell. I found a nice little entry that reminds me that all this freeflow writing that seems like it's sometimes not going anywhere really will get me somewhere...

"Henry David Thoreau filled thirty-nine journals with more than two million words during the course of his short life. Out of that two-million word stream of consciousness he gleaned enough usable text for three books and a few essays. Several other works were extracted from this reservoir after his death..."

I have two trunks filled with my journals. I keep meaning to finally start sorting through them. Maybe that will be a goal for this year. I also have my mother's journals that I still haven't brought myself to go through.

Another thing that I've been doing lately is writing myself a daily email of 100 words (the minimum) of observations. I find that I can come up with ideas for my novel's direction and write some snippets that I can use later.

Happy writing for any of you writers that may find these entries...

Okay, I'm really going to bed now, I have to get up in 4 hours!

Active Energy
Topic: WC - Daily Practice
Monday 6:32pm 12Feb07

An active energy has blown in. Between my comments in a previous blog entry about friends coming out of the woodwork and the big news at work today. Our big boss is moving on to another building with a huge promotion and we're getting a new boss. Some of my guys are nervous. Who is this new guy? What can we expect? What's it going to be like with all this change? Should prove interesting. But of course we can't control it so there's no need in worrying about it.

I told one of the hard workers that questioned me, "We're hard workers. We do our work regardless of who our boss is so it's not really going to affect us. The people that screw the pooch? They may have issues."

I love change. I love witnessing the new and how people react to it in their many ways. I love having the chance to get to learn a new person's mode of operating. I'm adaptable as hell. I'm a chameleon I'm so adaptable plus I pride myself on doing a good job. That's how you pay your rent consistently. I can't fuck around, I don't have parents that I can call for a loan or a spouse to tell that I'll be getting unemployment insurance for a minute. I can't afford to do a shitty job and get my ass fired for it. Especially in a huge company that's going places. Heck, I might want to apply for a job in Australia. It helps if I'm already in the company.

The active energy is affecting some of my close friends in trying ways too. I'm finally learning how to listen and not take the energy on. That's a great change, a freakin' success actually. I may be getting somewhere yet.

Mercury goes retrograde tomorrow so the active energy may go haywire. Still hoping my romantic timing improves. If it doesn't, I can't control it. So WTF?

That's about all I have to say
