What The Circus Is REALLY Like
Animals in the circus might look like they are having fun when they are out in the circus ring. But they are forced to perform for the audience. If they don't do what they are trained to do, horrible things can happen to them.
When elephants are brought into the circus as babies, they are chained by their legs and beaten to "break their spirit". They are taken away from their mothers, aunts, and sisters who they would spend their whole lives with in the wild.
If the elephants don't do their circus tricks properly, they are beaten and starved. They can go for days without food or water. They often get sick and are kept in chains when they are not performing in the circus ring.
It doesn't get any better for bears, tigers, or any other performing animals either. They are chained or kept in cages and are never free to do the things that wild animals of their kind do. Most of them have been taken away from their mothers as babies and will have to perform for the rest of thier lives or until they wear out their usefullness.
There is a way you can help these animals. Don't go to the circus!! If people don't go to circuses where there are animals performing, the circuses will have no reason to use the animals. It's very simple. Choose acrobats NOT animal acts!~!
There are a lot of circuses that only have people performing and not any animals. Support these people! Show animal abusers that you are not going to take it.
Don't Go To The Circus! If nobody goes to animal circuses, then just maybe circus people will get the idea and stop using animals!
Tell Your Friends! When the circus comes to your town, tell your friends what really happens to the animals who perform. Ask your friends and family members to please not go to the circus.
Let Them Know What You Think! When the circus comes to your town, tell the circus people that you don't think they should use animals in their circus and tell them why. Try writing them a letter and/or drawing them a picture. Also tell them that you will not go to see their circus until they stop using animals.
Put Up Posters! You can make posters letting people know not to go to animal circuses. When the circus comes to your town, put your posters up where a lot of people will see them. Lots of stores have bulletin boards where people can put up announcements. Get your parents to help you too!
We want to know what you have done to help circus animals! Send us your stories and pictures to let us know what you've done and you could have your story put up on this website with your picture! We will pick one story each season (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter) to add to the website. Send your stories to:
